Morning folks. It's Country Western Chicken Pot Pie Friday, as you've been hearing day after day this week. So you aren't disappointed when you arrive, I will warn you that we didn't go very all-out on the outfits. But it is probably the only time you will see James wearing a red and white polka-dot bandana around his neck, and me wearing blue suede boots.
Which are not even all that country-western, but I think maybe they are a little bit country-western.

kelly is eating now.. so i will finish up this blog. today we have:

-chicken pot pies of course

-caramalized onion and cheddar omelette

-blazing saddle bean soup

-we also have dutch apple, banana flax, and pumpkin millet muffins

have a fantabulous day.

goood morning all,

the specials today are:

- spelt banana flax (organic) muffins
- raspberry almond (organic) muffins
- tomato, green onion & parmesan omelette

this coming friday is "chicken pot pie country western friday" ...sounds pretty good huh?
yesss, fridays are starting to get a little bit 'freakier', a lot like that popular movie with lindsay lohan and jamie lee curtis, it was called 'FREAKY FRIDAY' and the mother and the daughter accidentally switch bodies (..or minds?) and since lindsay lohan is a popular highschool rocker girl, it leaves jamie lee curtis to rock out.. and lindsay's gotta go to work in the real world, whaaat could happen?? you'll have to watch the film to find out..
happy monday everyone..

We are having a HEAVY METAL WAFFLE FRIDAY here at Morning Glory today. Which means that we are making our weekend-only waffle special on a FRIDAY and playing heavy metal music all day. And also we are all dressed in black.

Specials are:
Fresh waffles with apple-cinnamon compote and a farmer's market sausage patty for the lower-than-usual price of six dollars and sixty-six cents.
Caramelized onion and cheddar omelette
Vicki's homemade chicken pot pies, served with either a cup of soup or salad for eight dollars
Chickpea masala soup,
and then when that soup runs out and the new one is finished:
Spicy squash soup
Fresh organic zucchini-chocolate muffins
Fresh organic banana golden flax muffins

Hallowe'en is coming up very soon; really it is only one week away because of all the Hallowe'en fun that happens on the nearest weekend. I have a very excellent costume planned which I cannot divulge for fear that Hallowe'en scavengers will adopt it as their own. I am, however, a master thinker-upper of Hallowe'en costume ideas and if you are having trouble thinking of a good costume I can help you. I will come up with some examples right now on the spot: Grapes (the way you do this is you cover yourself in purple or green balloons; this is not totally original but rather what my best friend in grade four was for Hallowe'en); either of the ladies from the Jetsons; Devendra Banhart; or a ghost. (Ghost, I know, is extremely UNoriginal but sometimes those generic costumes are really really good).

On Friday someone showed me a fake trailer for The Shining on Youtube, which makes The Shining look like a feel-good family movie called Shining, about a little boy looking for someone to call a father. It's set to a Peter Gabriel song and shows scenes like the little boy riding his tricycle down the halls and the wife finding Jack's pages of "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy," but makes it look like a happy story. Very funny. People are always raving about how wonderful this Youtube is, and I am beginning to see that it is in fact quite a lot of fun.

It is Friday the 13th today. Perhaps that is why no one is here? You are all at home, afraid to go out and meet with misfortune? Oh but do come in anyways.

The specials today are:

Tomato, olive and feta omelette
Roasted red pepper and coconut soup
Several varieties of Vicki's delicious organic muffins:
Banana and fair trade chocolate
Apple blackberry
Vegan banana
Apple cranberry
Pecan butter tarts
Organic chocolate chip cookies

And a most delicious sandwich special: the Curry Chicken Club, which is curried chicken breast with cheddar, bacon, lettuce, tomato, dijon and aioli on a toasted ciabatta bun. For $6.50.

Jacki just told me of her dream last night in which we were roommates, with one other unknown third roommate, in a very bad and falling apart apartment, and she was supposed to make dinner, so she was making tortellini, but when she went to get the sauce it was not where it was supposed to be because I had not put away, and when she found it it was full of mould that looked like trees, and so then she had to create her own sauce which she did with a combination of hot sauce and caesar salad dressing. And then I came home on a strange bicycle and I was mad because the sauce was gross.

Good morning. Happy Thanksgiving. Or rather, I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. I hope Doug and Lori had a nice wedding. I think they did. Congratulations Doug and Lori!

The specials today are:
Mushroom and cheddar omelette
Butternut squash soup
Organic spelt banana flax muffins
Organic brownies
Organic chocolate-chip cookies

I cooked a Thanksgiving dinner for sixteen people on Monday... sixteen! Eeek... it was a lot; I cooked and cooked and cooked. I think it was good. Everything turned out well, even though I had never cooked a turkey before and I was worried that it might come out black or raw or dried up into a raisin. Then the next morning at nine o'clock when the house was turned upside-down and there were one million empty wine bottles around and four friends had just woken up from sleeping on the couches my dad thought it would be nice to stop by for a visit with my grandma who had never been to my apartment before. Which was sort of funny.
Kelly

PS I've just added a special to today's menu in time for lunch. My first attempt at a bacon&egg salad sandwich. It comes on toasted sourdough for $6 or on a bed of mixed greens for $7.50. I used our homemade proscuitto which adds a nutty undertone along with the saltiness you'd get with regular bacon.

Wednesday, October 04, 2006

Hi hi. In restaurant news today - a reminder that we will be closed Sat/Sun/Mon for the Thanksgiving weekend. Also a reminder that we are now open Wednesdays. And finally an exciting announcement that our wonderful baker Vicki is taking holiday pie orders. You can order from her a fresh pumpkin, apple, apple crumb, butter tart or pecan pie; all of the pies are 9 inches and cost 14 dollars except the pecan which costs 16 dollars because pecans are expensive.

Specials today are:
Tomato, red onion and parmesan omelette
Red pepper and red bean soup
Bread pudding with blueberry compote
Organic banana flax muffins
Organic cranberry oat muffins
Organic apple pie

On Monday night I went to bed at 7:45 pm. I think I can say with almost total certainty that I have not gone to bed that early since about grade two. And even in grade two I probably never went to bed that early because then my bedtime was either 8:00 or 8:30, and what seven year-old goes to bed earlier than their bedtime? But it was pretty nice. Actually it wasn't even that nice because my body was very confused and kept doing things like throwing the covers across the room, which I never do, and also waking up again and again. But in a way it was nice because the next day I got to think that I was more rested than usual, even if maybe I wasn't.
