Hullo,
THE SPECIALS!
- Chilled roasted red pepper soup
_ Baby spinach and cheddar omelette
_ Peach muffins (it's PEACH SEASON!!)
_ Organic chocolate chip muffins
_Organic brownies
A List Running from A to Z (well actually only to G...)
A) It's hot...hothothothothot.
B) James and I fed the stray cats outside with pieces of sausages...they looked hungry. I am going to give them some fresh water because they keep drinking out of the puddle which is filled with rather nasty stagnant water...that can't be good.
C) We all went out for Doug's birthday on Thursday and it was fun...certain people however (skippy started it) made fun of my impending life as a librarian...they threw rather cliched jokes my way...dewy decimal system this, book classification that...you know, the usual. Water off a duck's back I say...water off a duck's back. They'll be sorry when I am a Master of Information!
D) Steven and I had a LOVELY weekend at Hillside. There were lots of dreadlocks, happy vibes, soy milk, and great musical times.
E) It is my last day here at Morning Glory...I am sad. I am the number one on-call person though...so hopefully people will take advantage of that!!!
F) It is too hot to be clever and witty (hence the list) so I hope ya'll have a good day and don't boycott Morning Glory because I am not here anymore...that just wouldn't be fair for James or Doug. Seriously people, it's not worth it.
G) James will be a married man by this time next week. ALL THE BEST TO TRISH AND JAMES!! Hurrah...happy times.
lovelove and farewell...FOR NOW.

well i don't know what it is;
perhaps the post birthday gods assumed i'd be hung over (i'm not) and devised a way for me not to have to spend the day in the sweltering hot kitchen here at morning glory.
or perhaps the financial gods assumed i'd get a large sums of money for my birthday (i didn't) and therefore decided to give me a quick kick in the bollocks before i got a chance to feel like i was finally getting ahead.
whatever it is, its causing more electrical difficulties here and MG and therefore the kitchen is now closed. we will remain open for coffee, baked goods (vikki made some beautiful organic apple bran muffins as well as he usual organic chocolate chip cookies) and that sort of thing, at least until the electrician gets here.
sorry about the inconvenience... we will be back with a vengeance tomorrow... god(s) willing.
fingers crossed.
peace.

One more little important tidbit of restaurant news:
We will be closing for about two weeks in August, from Friday August 4th until Sunday August 20th. This will give everyone a nice summer break from which we will return relaxed, rested, rejuvenated, and in some cases, married.

We have big news at Morning Glory today, the kind of news that only comes once a year - today is our wonderful Doug's birthday. Happy birthday, Mr. Tiller. Do come in and wish Doug a happy birthday.
The specials today are:
Mushroom and goat cheese omelette
Gazpacho
Organic pineapple coconut muffins
Organic chocolate chip cookies
Organic blueberry tarts
Organic Neiman Marcus chocolate chip oatmeal walnut cookies
Today on my way to work I biked past an elderly gentleman riding a small pale pink and blue girl's (child's) bicycle and wearing a plastic red and blue backpack with the straps pulled tight and I swear, I SWEAR, I heard him yell, "It's great to be unstable!" But I must have misheard him, I think.
Also I saw a girl biking around with her ipod on, and I got mad at her. (But just in my head). You shouldn't bike around with an ipod on. I mean, why don't you just put a cardboard box over your head and then go ride around? One time I saw a girl riding around while talking on her cellphone AND smoking a cigarette. That made me mad too. (Bike safety is important!!!)
Happy Birthday Doug.

Jacki is in the kitchen flipping eggs for practice, she's got to be on her eight-millionth batch by now. That skinny guy that lives upstairs eating a ham bagna, Skippy is reading the paper, Max just left and I'm listening to Lucinda Williams and sippin' OJ.
The omelet today is fresh chive and feta cheese
The pancakes are banana
The soup is chilled mellon and bluberry
We have a lot of organic baked goodies from Vikki. Berry/Granola muffins, blueberry tarts, urban legend chocolate-chip cookies and gingerbread men.
It's warm and sunny but the lovely breeze up Gilead Pl. is keeping the heat and the flies at bay.

Howdyhowdyhowdy,
The specials today are:
a) Cherry Muffins
b) Chilled citrus and honeydew soup with fresh blueberries
c) Fresh basil and goat's cheese scramble
d) lots of organic and tasty afters like brownies and cookies
Doug gave me the top of a cherry muffin today and it made me laugh because it reminded me of the muffin-top episode of Seinfeld when Elaine opens a business devoted to muffin tops...
I am feeling restless. I just got an e-mail from a friend who is in Japan. My friend Sarah just returned from a long trip to Europe. Doug was talking about going away in February. A customer is going to Portugal for three weeks. Another friend is in Iceland for the summer...Steven is going to NYC about three times in the next four months...hurrah for all of them.
I WANT TO GO ON VACATION.
We are going to Guelph this weekend for Hillside and it's fun 'cause we are renting a car and staying in a hotel thus making it a full-fledged mini-break.
I really wanted to go to the Balkans this summer but it didn't work out. I'm desperate to go to Croatia. Alas, not this summer but perhaps the next...we shall see. When I win the lottery, no one will see me for two years as I travel the world in my private plane, drinking expensive wine, and hangin' with the lucky friends who I choose to join me. We shall go from one end of the world to the other making a variety of pit stops along the way. Now that will be super.

Open again.
Something funny with the power here. The stove won't work, the lights downstairs... I think I heard James say this neighbourhood is on the oldest electrical grid in the city, which sometimes leads to problems. So we have had to close temporarily. The hydro guy just got here, so we hope to be open again in time for lunch.
Specials, if everything works out, are:
Leek and cheddar omelette
Chilled watermelon soup
Organic chocolate chip cookies
Organic brownies
Mercury is in retrograde again. About one year ago, all sorts of funny things were happening in my life and in the world at large, and I couldn't get over how strange everything was. This may sound silly, but really, everything was weird... very off. And then a friend said to me, "Have you noticed how weird everything is in the world right now?" because this friend, independently of me, had noticed the same thing. And then this friend told me about how Mercury was in retrograde, and this was making everything funny in the world. Well, similarly unusual things recently started happening in my life and all around me again, enough to again make me wonder why the world is acting so strangely, and what do you know? Mercury is in retrograde again. These are my favourite times of year. Everything is so weird.

so yesterday i was complaining about the heat, as you do on a day when its hot enough to cook your breakfast on the sidewalk outside instead of the griddle inside, and someone said to me
"i seem to remember you complaining about the cold back in january"
to which i replied "yeah... so".
"well you can't complain about both" they said.
my question is, why not? am i not alowed hate it when it's hot enough to make your eyeballs sweat as well as when it's cold enough to snap bones? who says? who came up with this silly rule?
that's what i want to know.
anyway... here's the specials
cold watermellon raspberry and pernod soup
green onion and feta scramble
raspberry pancakes
organic green tea and blueberry muffins (only 1 left)

Bonjour bonjour bonjour,
Les Specials are:
Roasted red pepper and goat's cheese omelette
Organic pineapple, coconut, and carrot muffins
Organic chocolate chip muffins
Organic and lovely brownies
Organic lemon poppyseed loaf
So I am going to come out and say it...and I know many of you will find this strange and unsettling perhaps. In my day I have encountered all sorts of reactions to this confession varying from those of utter disbelief to those who rally with me in support.
I don't like melon. No wait...I HATE MELON AND ALL IT'S BY-PRODUCTS.
And before you ask...
No, I don't like watermelon. No, I don't like fake-melon products (the thought of watermelon gum or liqueur makes me want to puke). No, I can't eat melon in anything (the filler fruit which infects all other tastes). No, I generally can't eat anything which has touched melon (again, the infectious quality it has). And no, I don't like watermelon (I feel I can't emphasize that enough) and no, (although I think it goes without saying that I don't like cantaloupe, musk melon, or honeydew (I resent having to even write these types down).
Steven's family thinks it's genetic because my parents don't really like it either. I think that if I was a scientist that I would research into the relationship between my melon-hatred and my genes. Steven's family are becoming a little obsessed with the fact that I don't like it and routinely bring melon to our house for Steven to eat...and thus encourage me to eat it too. I just screw up my face in disgust, thank them politely, and walk away.
I have a few allies in this world and I am grateful for this network of support. I would almost love to love melon if it wasn't so gross although I do find the watermelon ascetic (i.e. the red, white, green colours) quite appealing.
Anyway, James made me serve watermelon to customers today as a 'treat' for them and although I didn't say anything, felt that my morning glory worker's rights were being infringed upon.
That's enough.
love

Good morning.
The specials are:
Roasted red pepper and cheddar omelette
Bacon, avocado and cheddar on toasted ciabatta, $5.50
Chipotle gazpacho
and Organic blueberry peach muffins
Yesterday these are the things that happened to me on my way home from going out to a concert. First, since it was very late and I had to work the next day, and my bike was in the shop, my roommate was nice enough to lend me her bike. So I took her bike and started on my way home. But then something weird happened when I was changing the gears, and the pedals stopped working. I was pedalling and pedalling and it was not making the wheels turn. So then I got off the bike and started walking the bike home. This was too bad, since I was far away from home and had to get up in a few hours. Then what happened is that the front wheel fell off the bike. So then I had a bike that didn't work with one wheel off and one wheel on, and I was far away from home. I tried to get the wheel back on but couldn't. So finally I worked out a system of wheeling the bike upright on its remaining wheel and carrying the other one. Then after a while I met a nice man who helped me put the wheel back on in a moderately sturdy sort of way. Then I kept walking it home. Then I realized that when the wheel fell off, the lock also fell off, and was now gone. So then I retraced my steps and found the lock some ways back on a dark sidestreet. Then I continued walking the bike home. It took a long time and was sort of funny, and sort of not funny at all.

Oh-Jacki is in the kitchen trying to flip over easy eggs, so I'm out here bloggin'.
The specials:
cremini mushroom and cheddar cheese omelette
chilled tomato and dill soup
raspberry panakes
Organic muffins, coffee cake and brownies.
Vikki has spent the entire morning baking goodies for the Riverdale Farmers market. Vikki will be there today and every Tuesday until the end of the season.
I don't know what the hell Jacki is playing on the stereo but it seems to be a playlist made of 90's detritus. Despite the sun, I shiver.

Morning.
Specials today are:
Primavera (zucchini, red onion, red pepper, sundried tomato) and parmesan cheese omelette
Soup is gazpacho
We ran out of muffins, I'm sorry, but we have lovely-looking organic chocolate chip cookies
And a sandwich special - rosemary chicken salad sandwich for $5.50
Isn't it funny how sometimes when you are growing up your family does something in a weird way, but because that's how they've always done it and you've always known it, you grow up thinking it is the normal way? I will give you some examples of what I am talking about. My roommate's grandpa, when she was growing up, always refrigerated Kraft dinner for several hours after making it, then covered it with a thick layer of sugar and served it as a dessert. He thought that this was how one was supposed to prepare it, and how he always served it, so my roommate grew up thinking that this was Kraft dinner. And I had a friend in elementary school named Amanda who thought that the correct way to prepare Mr. Noodles was to boil the noodles, strain the water, throw away the package of seasoning, and mix in a dollop of Cheez Whiz and a lot of black pepper. For a long time she refused to believe that this was not the correct way, even after I showed her the instructions.
