Gosh, it seems like so long since I was last here. I half-expected the walls to have been painted orange and Doug to have grown his hair long. But things are more or less the same. Only with that Spring-y feeling in the air. Which is nice.

The specials today are:
Tomato, green onion and cheddar omelette
Vegetable-rice soup
Spiced mango muffins
And we have a sandwich special which is bacon, avocado and brie on a toasted ciabatta bun for $5.50

The reason I have been away so long (for those of you who have been so achingly missing me) is that, well, first I took a couple of days off to finish all of my schoolwork, because it was the end of the term. And THEN on my way home from handing in my last essay this stupid lady on College St. opened her door into me as I was going past her car on my bike, and while luckily I was relatively unhurt, my finger got pretty bashed up so that I couldn't work last week. Stupid lady. I am really mad at her. My finger is still funny-looking and sort of crooked and I can't fully bend it or straighten it out. I'll show it to you for a dollar.

Perfect day to sit on the patio, eat a butty or some french toast and listen to the sounds of Gilead Pl. Dogs barking, building construction, Adam's old Land Rover rattling by, highschool students nattering and Eric the cafe bonbon guy climbing down the fire escape with his bike. We are working on a new menu for the summer, not a lot of changes but some lighter fare will be added. We are also looking at slowly changing over to a more seasonal based menu. I can't speak for anyone else but Doug and I are sick of white tomatoes $2 lettuce. I guess I spoke for Doug there. We would like to put an organic dish on the menu but we are costing it out and seeing what our options are.

Carrot soup

Brie and pear omelette

Banana/blueberry muffin

One of my recent favourite sandwiches is on the board today: Tallegio and ham on a toasted baguette. Tallegio is a somewhat stinky Brie-like Italian cheese. Marvelous, bloody marvelous

oh my Christ... thanks for 3 days off. it couldn't have come at a better or more necessary time.

i hope everyone had a nice relaxing time. i spent saturday painting the apartment and monday working on the patio here at morning glory so i really only had sunday to relax but it's better than nothing so i won't complain.

here's today's specials :

carrot soup
mushroom and cheddar omelette
banana pancakes
banana muffins (actually i just watched the last one being sold so you're s.o.l. sorry)

anyway, it's a beautiful day out there so i'm gonna go sit on the newly erected patio... perhaps you should too so i don't have to feel like i sacrificed my monday off for nothing.

cheers,
d

many apologies for the super tardiness of today's blog... i have no real excuse so i'll just blame it on the new guy, cameron.

...and we'll just leave it at that.

anyway, for those of you who haven't already sorted out your lunches, here's today's specials:

the soup is roasted red & yellow pepper
the omelette is baby spinach and cheddar
the sandwich is smoked salmon
the muffin (and i do mean "the muffin" cause there's only one left) is mango & carrot

just a reminder, we'll be open tomorrow (good friday) but closed saturday, sunday & monday... then back to the usual grind as of tuesday. so if we don't see you tomorrow, have a great long/holiday/easter/whatever weekend, and if we do see you, hopefully we'll remember to say it in person. if we don't, please see the preceding line.

cheers.

It's a lovely Tuesday out there. I'm blogging today becuase jacki is busy training her brother Cameron, who will be working here on Thursdays. I have been checking out via the web, this "sourtoe" cocktail that you can get in Dawson City. It turns out that it's not a load of bollocks but the real deal. It is your drink of choice with a preserved human toe floating in it. If the toe touches your lips you get a certificate proclaiming that you are an authentic "sourtoe". Google it, it exists. So what I want to do here is: preserve the tip of my index finger the next time I chop it off and serve it in a single espresso. We could call it the "Javajimmy" and issue soiled napkins to anyone who drinks it.

The muffins are banana

The pancakes are banana

The soup is pureed red pepper

The omelette is mushroom and cheddar

The music is Red Hot Chilli Peppers

The finger is so far, intact

Well it's Monday, and it's spring time. The days are getting longer and our tempers are getting shorter. Here at Morning Glory we're looking forward to some nice weather and patio season. We'd like to welcome a new member to the MG team, Jacki. Jacki will be working Mondays and Tuesdays.

On the board today:

Spinach and Feta omelette

Blueberry, lemon muffins

Tomato and vegetable soup

GST remittance

Calm resolution

Had dinner with Tommo last night. He made a ridiculously good roasted Ontario lamb with potatoes and green salad followed by peach tart with whipped cream. We all felt spoilt, especially as we all left without offering to help with the dishes.
