So I was going to get this out early today but we're not sure what the soup is. Oh well.

Mushroom and Goat Cheese Omelette

Blueberry Muffins

The Chicken Curry Club $7

Mystery Soup (amazement, curiosty, and happiness in a complicated broth). . . I have been informed that our soup is Carrot Ginger

Along with the beautiful weather came on of the best things I have ever seen. I was walking by a baseball field and saw a lady provocatively clinging to the fence with her ass shoved out and she was staring at some guy with drowsy eyelids. My boyfriend and I both thought this to be a peculiar way to pick up, then he (the guy in the scene not my boyfriend) started snapping photos. I believe I had witnessed my first ever Sunshine girl photo shoot. Beauty at its peak.

It is so nice to wake up with a sunny room, it actually made me feel a bit human in stead of a mole person.

Pear and Brie omelette

Mixed Berry Muffins

Blueberry Pancakes $5

Chick Pea Masala Soup

I really love spring. I even decided to walk home (1 1/2 hours) instead of wait for the Dundas street car. And the strip of Dundas between Parliment and Young didn't seem as ugly as it usually does.

MG news? Kelly''s going to be gone for a couple of weeks, studying. That's about it.

Dandelion Greens and Cheddar Omelette

We ran out of baking soda so the muffins are half price again, however, there is only one left.

Potato dill soup

I was walking around yesterday with the rest of Toronto and I came across a box of free books. In the box was one of the most amazing free books I have ever seen.. It was a "yearbook" of all the "Vital Statistic" and mini write ups on all the teen stars (television, film, and music) from 1988. As I was looking through I came across Will Wheaton's Vital statistics. I had the biggest crush on Will as a kid, he was the only reason I watched Star Trek the Next Generation with my dad. Will Wheaton and I share something, a birthday and almost our weight. If I would have known about our connection back then, I would have stayed single in hopes of meeting him one day. We can't have everything.

Today is special project day at Morning Glory, and not special project as in grade 5 science fair, ( My topic was mould. For weeks I left different kinds of food around the house such as cheese and bagels in the dark, in the light, in the fridge and saw which kinds of mould grew on the different specimens and how long it took. I went to the finals. I put my bristol board in the basement after everything was done with the crowning gem of the project still attached, a hardened bagel which had grown every colour of mould imaginable. I went downstairs one day to find that my dog had eaten half and was eating the rest of my prize winning bagel. Odie live a full life after the incident.) but special project as in boring chores to pass the time.

Portabello Mushroom and Parmesean Cheese Omelette

1 half price Raspberry Muffin

Zucchini and green mango soup

Croque Monsieur (grilled gruyere, ham and Dijon sandwich) $5.50

Now, James seems to have a feeling (and when James gets a feeling he's right half the time) that this weekend will be perfect for shopping at the Value Village on Queen East, no matter how over priced their paintings are, and you know what is EXTREMELY CLOSE to the V.V? That's right, the newly opened MERCURY ORGANIC ESPRESSO BAR. Stop in, have a sip, meet the "Killer" and have a heart drawn in your foam.

Things have calmed down here now that a little thing called the Mercury is open.

Leek and cheddar omelette

There was a little snag with the raspberry muffins this morning, so there are none.

Roasted red pepper and coconut soup.

I missed the Mercury's grand opening yesterday because I had to exchange a pair of shoes I had bought my boyfriend at the Value Village. The shoes didn't fit. I found a slide projector from the early 1960's with the family's slides still in it! It is my favorite, but the funny thing is that the slides are too big for this particular projector.

Baby Spinach and Cheddar Omelette

Asian Pear Pancakes $5

Blueberry Muffins

Roasted Red Pepper and Coconut Soup

It's the second day of spring and I am wearing a bathing suit today, as a shirt of course. I'm sick of the winter we didn't have and my winter jacket is starting to smell. I'm not sure if that's a comment on my personal hygiene or a comment on the length of winter.

THE MERCURY ORGANIC ESPRESSO BAR IS OPEN TODAY. After many weeks of too much work and arguments with accountants and lawyers it's done done done. Go check it out at 915 Queen East between Carlaw and Logan. Apparently their espresso blend is like a drug, so much so that James is now drinking an uncharacteristic tea because he had two shots this a.m.

Pear and Brie Omelette

Spiced Honey and fig muffins

Roasted Fennel and mushroom soup

It's the first day of spring today, my ass it is.
Sincerely,
Kristan

Ahhhhh! What a hectic day! I got locked in my jeans this morning and was late for work, well not really late, just not sufficiently early. The boys are having trouble with accounting and incorporating and city hall and paper work stuff regarding the new joint (Mercury really is rising today). Anyway, the deal is WE HAVE TO CLOSE AT 2 O'CLOCK TODAY, not on account of the jeans but of the paper business. Sorry for all you late risers out there.

Arugula and Cheddar Omelette

Raspberry muffins

Tomato soup

Rosemary Pound Cake $2.50

Spicy Chocolate brownies $2.50

I thought it was all together last night. I painted my bed side tables a lovely deep red, altered a shirt, had a relax and then today just exploded first thing. Keeps it interestin' I reckon.

Thursday, March 16, 2006

Well, I'm sorry to all the people I served on Monday, I was sick and wasn't able to eat properly and hadn't eaten properly since thursday. I wasn't hearing things correctly and was doing things like trying to open the fridge from the wrong end repeatedly in a trans-like state.

Roasted Red Pepper and Feta Omelette

Blueberry Muffins (2)

Tomato Soup

Croque Monsieur $5.50 (grilled Gruyere, ham, Dijon in a sandwich) the Croque always makes me picture a curled moustache.

Um, I have Carol King hair today. I'm getting bored and anxious for spring. I think I'm going to paint my bedside tables bright red tonight.

The Mercury is opening soon so that is the big topic of conversation here right now. You are all invited to come and check it out when it is open. I'm sure that James and Doug will have more to say about it later.

Specials today are:
Banana pancakes (one order left)
Sauteed yellow pepper and piave cheese omelette
Mixed bean soup
Spiced pear and currant muffins

For those of you who haven't noticed yet, Doug made employee of the month in February, and before the month is even out, James has been named employee of the month for March. A great big congratulations to both of them.

so, the other day i'm at home depot picking up a few things need for the ongoing construction phase of Mercury (that's the organic espresso bar that james, myself and a third partner matt are opening in leslieville at the end of the week, fingers crossed... but i digress). anyway, so i'm at HD... standing in the nuts and bolts aisle when i over hear the tail end of conversation between a couple who appeared to be in their late thirties, or early forties.

it went something like this...

man : unicorns are cool, ya know, with the lion tail and the goat hooves... but pegasus can fly.

now, perhaps it's just me, but the phrase "unicorns are cool" strikes me as something that should only be heard coming out of the mouth of a ten year old girl... if ever. certainly not a grown man... and not in the middle of a hardware store. no?

meh.

anyway, here are today's specials :

3 bean soup

roasted fennel and mozzarella omelette

banana and chocolate chip muffins

and there are three slices of rosemary loaf left from yesterday

cheers.

We're open and it's a Monday? My bank account thanks March for finally coming around. A Big hoorah Kelly's birthday today! She's 22. I missed her birthday party and am very sorry for it. I hope she had fun and cake.

Zucchini, green onion and havarti omelette

Mango, chocolate chip and walnut muffins

Chipotle pumpkin soup

Sorry, but we're out of sausage.

I'm a sleepy lady today. I haven't been able to make proper conversation since Friday, so the blog will be a little on the bland side this morning. No Kelly quality story here.

In restaurant news: Boot Liquor is still our favourite internet radio station. Playing "American roots music for saddle-weary drunkards", it has been replacing our regular music rotation for the past few weeks.

Today we offer you the following specials:
Pear and brie omelette
Pesto vegetable soup
Banana-mixed berry muffins
You might also try the Agent 99. That is an over-easy egg, ham, cheddar, tomato, ketchup and aioli on a toasted ciabatta bun.

Here is a story. An acquaintance of mine named Emily has been going to a friend's weekly Wednesday dj night at a place called Lobby Bar. For those who are unfamiliar with this place, it is (and I apologize to any readers who may frequent it) perhaps the most pretentious-looking bar in the city. It is around Bay and Bloor, and it is full of huge plush bright-white couches and other silly-looking decor. Much as the proprieters probably hoped when they opened it, it has apparently become something of a "celebrity hotspot". And so the last couple of Wednesdays, Ryan Philippe has been among those in attendance. A couple of Wednesdays ago, Emily was at Lobby Bar and whatever she was wearing required her to wear a strapless bra. Strapless bras being infrequently worn items of clothing, this strapless bra was the same one that she had had since she was about fifteen years old. The bar must have been quite full, for she was standing right next to Ryan Philippe, very close to him. Well as she was standing right next to him, all of a sudden, maybe owing to its age, Emily's strapless bra broke, fell out of her dress or shirt, and landed right on the foot of Ryan Philippe.

All right blog, it's you and me. The mercury is trotting along just fine except for the fact that James is a bit exhausted, and Doug, well he had 3 weeks in spain so he's not allowed to be exhausted yet.

We have 2 orders of Banana Pancakes left for 5 bucks

Mushroom and cheddar omelette

One raspberry muffin

Tomato pesto soup, I love pesto. I love eating pesto straight out of the jar.

Today was the second time someone has ordered the Breakfast "Booty" and to those people I say, "It's not that kind of establishment."

I reached a new yet romantic low this week. I've been locked in my apartment painting sets and props for a show I'm designing and going a bit nutty. For my break, I sat at my kitchen table wit a glass of red wine and a cigarette (I don't usually smoke except when I'm stressed or drunk out of my mind, I was stressed in this particular case) and listened to Patsy Cline. In fact, I had Patsy on repeat. A new beautiful low.
