We are open today, after four lovely days of holiday. And we will be open tomorrow and Saturday as well, then closed for four more days (Sun, Mon, Tues, Wed) before we return to the regular, non-holiday schedule.
Specials today are: Arugula and havarti omelette; tomato-cabbage soup; and raspberry muffins.
I hope that everyone had a nice holiday. I had quite a nice time, up north with my family. There is a lot more snow up north. Perhaps the most eventful part of the weekend was when, on Christmas Eve, my brother got our car stuck in a ditch and we had to get pushed out by Santa. As soon as we arrived at my grandmother's place on Saturday my aunt, who has a place nearby, called to say that Santa Claus was coming by to visit her grandchildren, who are 2 and 4 years old, and we should come and see. So we drove over, and Santa was at the bottom of the hill, waiting for us to arrive before going up to surprise the kids. But as we were trying to get up the snowy driveway, my brother turned our car into a ditch and couldn't get out. So after some attempts at manoevering out, Santa got out of his Ford Explorer and helped push our car out of the ditch in his red and white suit. After which he finally went to visit the kids, which was really rather cute. When he left, he told us to watch out the window, and we saw that Santa travels so fast in his sleigh that it really just resembles a red firework (which is, of course, Rudolph's nose) zooming across the field away from you.
Happy new year.

Also a little Merry Christmas from me. Or happy holidays. It never really gets old, every holiday season, talking about whether or not one should say "Merry Christmas". Kind of like how it never gets old talking about the weather. Personally I think "Merry Christmas" long ago took on a secular meaning. So, Merry Christmas friends. By which I mean happy holidays. We will be open Saturday, closed Sun, Mon, Tues, Wed.

Well it's the end of the week for most of you but here at MG we still have one more day left until we're off for a few days. We are really looking forward to some R&R and visits with friends and family. I am certainly looking forward to reacquainting myself with their couches and fridges. So, I'm not saying we're scraping the bottom of the barrel here but we are using up what we have left in the fridges because there is no point in doing our usual pre-weekend shopping and prepping. Here is the goodness from the afore mentioned barrel:
Roasted rosemary chicken salad(diced oven roasted breast mixed with aioli and served on a bed of our house greens and some clementines) mmm...breast!
The MG chicken curry club (chicken breast marinated in yogurt and spices and fried up on the griddle. Served on a toasted ciabatta bun with lettuce, tomato, old cheddar, bacon, aoli and dijon mustard) mmm....more breast!
The omelette is baby spinach and cheddar
The muffins are chai-spice zucchini
The soup is tomato/cabbage
We also have the usual droll banter about holiday shopping and driving in the city.
I would like to use this opportunity to wish everyone Merry Christmas.
Thanks Leigh, for the yummy peanut brittle.
Thanks Peter for the yummy chocolates.
Thanks all of you our customers for making this another special and somewhat lucrative season
God bless us, everyone.

Well, Doug and James have a catering gig today and this is my last day of work here forever, if forever only lasted until next Friday.
Mushroom and Goat Cheese Omelette
Mango Chocolate Chip Muffins
Leek and Mushroom Soup
Perhaps a lunch special of some sort. Stay posted, it all depends on whether they have enough left after the catering.
Screw Holiday food, I had the best meal of my life last night, smoked trout on crackers with cracked pepper, Havarti, Beer, and chocolate to balance it all out. I ate the cheese first because I was hungry but then I truly found heaven, a cracker with the trout, then a sip of beer, a square of chocolate and all topped off with the teen antics of a Degrassi rerun, perfection. Merry Christmas everyone.

I'm trying to get this done early before the rush gets here, if there is a rush today. Both the bus and streetcar were empty this morning, I was afraid that I had woken up at 4am. A little bit of sleuth work, I have a source who disclosed that they spotted an Heidi at Pearson last night.
Blueberry pancakes $5 (don't quote me on this or try to get a deal if it ends up false, but I think we may have pancakes for a while today.)
Baby Spinach and caraway spiced Goudaa omelette
Raspberry muffins
Curried veggie and basmati rice soup
In the Holiday spirit, I used to be Catholic now I'm just me. When I was little, my Sunday mornings and Christmases consisted of my mom dragging me, my brother and my father to church where I would entertain myself by laughing at my dad, who sings hymns like Leonard Cohen, listening to my brother whining "I'm hungry. When's communion?" and watching ceiling fans. The most embarrassing part about these excursions would be when I would let out a yawn and, my defenses down, burp a little at the same time, this would happen at least twice for every hour of church.

I forgot to make a comment about my Christmas gift from the boys on Thursday. I got a Cinderella book complete with working clock. They said it was so I wouldn't be late for work, which I haven't been in a while, and because it's my job to clean the bathrooms. It was my mistake and big mouth that bestowed the bathroom duty on me. I told Heidi that it was my childhood chore to clean the bathrooms and about how much I used to love it and it's been my job ever since. I probably shouldn't have blabbed that, besides, I was a strange kid. I didn't like getting hugged or being picked up and I had a daily schedule to take my Ernie doll for walks in a stroller on a prescribed route around the first floor of our house. I suppose half of this is supposed to be in the second personal section of the blog, but I'm not clever enough to split them up. It's Monday.
Pear and Brie omelette
Spiced currant and walnut muffins
Basmati Vegetable soup
Rosemary coffee cake
Ginger stout cake
Something personal now, I once tried to knit Rudolf a red scarf for Christmas but I got tired and it ended up a neck warmer.
Bye,
Kristan
Our holiday hours are as follows, we will be open Saturday December 24 and closed from December 25 until Wednesday the 27th. We will open on Thursday the 29th through to Saturday December 31. From Sunday January the 1st until January 4th which is a Wednesday, we will be closed. We will reopen for good Thursday the 5th. Got that?
We'll keep you posted regarding our February hours. That's right we are closing for a little bit in February so we can devote a bit of time to a new project we're cooking up, which if you haven't yet heard the rumours involves Matthew.

In news pertaining to the restaurant: I will not be getting fired for Christmas after all. Instead James and Doug got me a Thomas the Tank Engine colouring book complete with tattoos. Thank you James and Doug.
The specials today are: leek and havarti omelette; tomato, dill, and roasted corn soup; and sausage on a bun with apple sauerkraut for $5.50. I'm afraid we are all out of blueberry muffins.
I would further like to comment on Doug and James. I wish they would stop acting like grumpy old men and realise how youthful, handsome and funny they are. Why just last night James single-handedly pushed his car out of a snowbank, he is strong. I would also like them to stop making wise cracks about me being a "kid". If they don't stop it I'm going to run them over. If I was old enough to drive. I'll get my dad to do it. Now I'm going have an orange. I don't ride my bike in the snow.

Dead Dead Dead. I'm not being morbid that's just the way it's been 'round these parts lately, must be all those presents you've been hitchn' up.
Sauteed mushroom and cheddar omelette
2 raspberry muffins left
Tomato, dill and roasted corn soup
Salmon Sarnie (smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, tomatoes, red onions on a toasted baguette) $7
I'm allowed to write something personal in the second part of the blog now. This is the new fandangled format we've got going on. My favourite colour is yellow.

Yesterday, I was reminded, or rather, I remembered banners on old computer printers. Did any one else go crazy with those things? I used to make Happy Birthday banners, Welcome Home banners, and banners about anything in between in obscene amounts. I had forgotten about the banner after those printers became obsolete. I guess there was something magical about the printer paper that stuck together, and not just because of the little springs you could make out of the edges. I dedicate today to banners.

So, I went travelling with my f@#*ing cart again yesterday. I started off the day at the Dufferin mall at 9:30am. No one should start their day off in Walmart and Dollar Stores. I then went to the Lansdown Value Village to do more shopping for the show. In the process, I found a lovely blanket for my wintertime bed but it was $9.99 and I'm poor so I started to take the tag off and the staple stabbed me in the thumb, retribution. I went home, dropped my things of,f and set out for Chinatown again to steal more crates and get yelled at by the crate lady after which I got on the street car. When my stop came, I couldn't get off the back because there was a truck in the way, so I ran to the front before the driver took off and got hooked onto some lady's bag who just stood there huffing and puffing and everyone else on the street car started yelling at me in different languages. I got off the street car, cried a bit, and developped a stronger hatred for my cursed cart. One more night of this, the show goes up on Saturday.
The omelette is Pear and Brie
Banana muffins
Roasted carrot and cinnamon soup
The salmon sarnie is here for a visit (Smoked salmon, cream cheese, red onion, capers on a baguette)
See ya,
Kristan
P.S Kelly, if you're coming to Shake a Tail, you are on the guest list, with your friends of course. It seems so snobby. But I don't want your toes getting cold.
PPS Sorry everyone about the personal blogg comunication but I don't see Kelly any more.

It was a buisy morning here at the big MG, so we only have one order of raspberry pancakes left for $5. We do have 4 raspberry muffins though. Our omelette is broccloi and swiss, you know what your mom said about broccoli. Our soup is roasted carrot and cinnamon. That's all I think. Have a nice day.

I've become a crazy cart lady in the past weeks. I'm designing a children's play and for the set I've been stealing crates from Chinatown, for this and other props, I've purchased a cart. This cart has made me loopy. I've gotten off the Dufferin bus and said "If you don't move you're gonna get hit.", fallen face down on the stairs at Spadina station, tripped a girl and sent her flyng, and got yelled at for stealing the Chinatown crates. I have come up with the theory that bag ladies become crazy because of the load, not because of a previous disposition.

Well, let's see how I do here. It has been so long since I last blogged, what with the bad man stealing our computer and then my withdrawing into the depths of the library for the last week to do write about one million essays. Which I successfully completed on Wednesday, which means I can now resume life, which feels pretty nice. I am going to do things like finish furnishing my apartment, sleep longer hours, and go out dancing. Also I am going to make at least eight dresses before New Year's.
Today's specials are: banana muffins, leek and havarti omelette, curried pepper squash soup, and curried chicken club sandwich ($6.50). That's curried chicken breast, bacon, cheddar, tomato, lettuce, aioli and dijon on a toasted ciabatta. And for those of you who would like to try an especially excellent cappuccino, our coffee expert Matt will be here between 11 and 2, and you can ask him to make you one.

We got a new computer! We can play music and movies and junk, but not yet. Screw you robber guy! It's Thursday and you know what that means . . . not much.
Pear and Brie omelette
Mixed berry muffins, these are my favorite muffins. They're mushy but fantastic, kinda like the raw cookie dough thing but 10000000000000 times better.
Portabello mushroom and cream cheese sandwich $5.50
Curried pepper squash soup.
Man, Kelly has got to come back, my blogs are suffering.
