Hi kids - I'm afraid that there's no time for pleasantries this morning (well, by now it is certainly afternoon)so this will have to be fast and dirty, just like James.
The specials are:
Arugula Provolone and Cheddar Omelette
Curried Pepper Squash Soup
and the pancakes were Apple and they were delicious.
The oven is still broken - cross your fingers and hope really hard, and there might be muffins on Thursday. Depends if the guys feel like working on their day off or not, I suppose.
TTFN,
Trish

Spinach, red onion and feta omelette
Tomato & mushroom florentine soup
Pancakes (yes, we know it's Monday) with raspberry & apple compote
We don't have any muffins today becuase the oven is broken, which I will be trying to fix today. Fingers crossed, we'll have muffins tomorrow.
It was another busy weekend here, lot's of people from all over town coming in for the first time to see what all the fuss is about. Then realising there isn't. Well, except for the guy falling down the stairs while rushing for the bathroom and then Emmy also falling down the stairs right after telling us about it. Which was notably clumsy becuase she was actually standing in the kitchen at the time.
We've been working on specialty coffee drinks with Matthew lately and so for we've come up with: a rosemary macchiato, my own little cafe Mecki and Doug's yet unnamed half cream half milk cappuccino (soggy gopher?). If you haven't tried any of our espresso drinks yet then you should treat yourself. We have a very nice blend that we get fresh roasted every week from Peter at Java Roaters and Matt has been coaching us on proper techniques. I actually went out and bought an imported hand-tooled, rosewood handled tamper. I recomend trying a simple cappaccino first then work your way up to a rosemary macchiato. You don't want to slide in to home plate with out rounding the bases first. Take it from me, I lost my virginty with out so much as a first-french-kiss and puppy love was never the same.
I have a list of errands to attend to so I'll leave you today in Doug and Kristan's hands.

You know you've become an adult when. Speaking of presents, It's the mysterious Eric's, of the Cafe Bombon Eric, Birthday. I know ladies don't like their age blurted out so I won't disclose Eric's, it's a biggie though. Happy Bday Eric. It's also my boyfriend's birthday but he never reads these things anyway so if I say happy birthday to him it will be wasted, not that you guys are a waste or anything. Oh Heck, Happy birthday Aaron! And any one else who popped out today, this year or any previous year, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
Sincerely,
Kristan

The specials today are:
leek and cheddar cheese omelette
mixed berry muffins
leek and potato soup
pickled madness sandwich (pickles, artichoke hearts, pickled eggs and minced shallots mixed with aioli and served on toasted ciabatta with lettuce and tomato)
We have recovered from the media blitz of last week, my head-ache has cleared, Doug's stomach is no longer uneasy and Kristan is wearing an interesting hat. There is snow on the ground, the restaurant is empty and the Sadies are on the stereo. Our espresso drinks are gaining in popularity thanks to Matthew Taylor. Come in and ask for a cafe Mecki, that's our latest offering since the cafe bonbon(the first original recipe that works, don't ask about the "dirty-sanchez" debacle and where that went. Yogurt? Maybe not).
Thanks to everyone who heard about us on the CBC or read about us in the Post, we were glad you gave us a try and we look forward to having you back. Many new customers came in and this past week-end was our busiest ever. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and judging by overheard comments, you did too!

Good morning faithful readers. I do hope the whirl of guest bloggers is not too jarring for you - I know we have many creatures of habit at Morning Glory.
James is at home in bed trying to recover from the media induced vertigo he and Doug suffered this weekend. The media glare is harsh my darlings...
National media coverage twice in one week has turned our once quiet little cafe into the brunch spot du jour. As many of you discovered, queues seem to be the way of the world for now. Does it comfort you to know that being in so tight with the owners that you are marrying one of them does not provide exemption from waiting in line? I thought it would...we're all in this together. The best thing I have found though, is that a truly wonderful brunch is made that much better by a short wait. Instant gratification dulls your senses my friends.
Perhaps next time I will try and provide you with conversation topics that will engage and entertain your fellow queue members. Perhaps the recent history of Gilead Place? A who's who of Corktown so to speak... But then I might be giving away secrets I should't.
And now it's so close to lunch are you're just waiting with bated breath for the specials...
The muffins were Raspberry, but you know they don't last long...
The soup is Doug's fabulous Tarrgon Sweet Potato - deep, spicy and mysterious just like him.
The pancakes are Apple and Cinnamon, and the omelette is a tasty Goat Cheese and Mushroom. The filling is also delicious with pasta, if you happen to know where to procure some after hours...
Bon Appetit - get out to enjoy the sunshine while you can!
Trish
PS Lori: please be kind - I know the spelling is fine, but the grammar has been repeatedly interrupted by admin meetings and handsome couriers. I can only focus on so much...I am a Cap, but I'm human too...

No more guest bloggers today, we're back to the mish mashed mess of my blogs. Well this weekend my boyfriend has his 60s night at a wild little place in Kensington called The Boat which is a time capsule from the 70s and looks like a boat on the inside complete with port hole mirrors. The night went really well, so well that we had a line up at one point and I got to give Kelly the VIP treatment by letting her by pass it, I felt both cool but nerdy at the same time. I didn't feel so cool yesterday though, mostly nerdy and in pain. Also on Saturday, we had a mini review in the National Post. speaking of nerdy, they put one of my nerdiest blog quotes in the review which made me a little embarrassed, at least they didn't quote one of my many spelling errors, much to James' relief.
Baby spinach and cheddar omelette
Mango and blueberry muffins
Cabbage soup
It's monday.
Sincerely,
Kristan

I will never forget the day, being yesterday, that Doug asked me to act as guest blogger. And I will never forget the next day, being today, that Doug asked me to guest blog again. That's a lot to remember...
Luckily, I have written down the specials. My poor brain can only retain so much.
Today at Morning Glory: Lots o Leek Day
PLP Soup - that's Potato, Leek and Parsnip
Sauteed Leek and Cheddar Omelette
James' Spectacular Banana Muffin ("muffin" because there is only one left, and you may have to wrestle someone for it)
There are still some pecan-y goodness cookies left as well.
And...
Sauteed Portobello Mushroom and Goat Cheese Ragout, on a ciabatta bun for $5.50
Happiest of lunching/brunching,
Lori

Good morning, morning gloriers,
Today's blog comes to you from Etobicoke, far from the actual cafe, but due to unforseen laptop circumstances, I will be your guest blogger for the day. Be kind - this is my first blog. All I can guarantee is the spelling.
But see how much Doug and James care about you, and getting you your daily blog? It brings a tear to my cynical eye.
To business, today's specials:
Vegetable Soup (comes with bowl and spoon, napkin too)
Omelette is Pear & Brie (mmm)
Muffins are Apple & Mango (together, in the same muffin, and there are some left...)
Cookies are Oatmeal, Pecan & Chocolate Chip (those sound good, too)
Enjoy your brekkies!
Lori

Good morning all… no time for our usual witty (or witless, depending on your sense of humor)banter. Too much to do. Sorry.
Anyway, here are the specials.
Vegetable soup
Split Pea and Pork Stew
Arugula and Havarti Omelette
We're all out of the Blueberry Pancakes
Blueberry Muffins
Rosemary Loaf
mmmmmmm.
I think that’s it, if not, my appologies.
Cheers.

Oh man, it just seems plain pointless to end my coffee ocean thing now, it's so far removed. It will have to be one of those unrequited things in life, like the book Love in the Time of Cholera but not as romanitic or sob worthy. Holy cow, we were buisy this weekend! I wasn't here, I was sleeping in, but I heard it was crazy. As you can tell I really have nothing to discuss this morning. Kelly had a short blogg on Friday because she had to rush off, I have a short one because my head's just not doing it for me this morning. What can I say, I'm boring. If that doesn't rope you into coming in today I don't know what will.
3 chocolate chip muffins left.
Sweet potato and goat cheese omelette. Does anybody else find it funny that they advertise for cheese?
Carrot with ginger and rosemary soup.

A few things to say today.
First of all, we are finally inventing a Kelly-sandwich. Its ingredients have not been finalized but hopefully by next Friday it will be a full-fledged sandwich special. It is called the Agent 99.
Second of all, they were touting our blog on CBC radio yesterday morning. Blogging always makes people feel famous. People like writing blogs because it makes them feel like celebrities. But now that Andy Barry and Catherine Jheon have told all their listeners about it on the radio, it's almost like we actually are celebrities.
That's all I'm going to say since it is getting late and I should hurry up and post this blog before we get hit by the CBC-listener lunch rush.
Specials are:
Leek and havarti omelette
Lentil-squash soup
Salmon sarnie (smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, red onion and tomato on toasted baguette)
Pickled Madness Sandwich (pickled egg salad, artichoke hearts, dill pickle and tabasco on a toasted ciabatta bun)
Kelly

So I know I promised the reason for my two questions today but with recent events it seems a trivial blog subject. The first event, which I forgot to mention on tuesday, was that we, well Morning Glory, was on CBC radio this mornig at aroun 7:25. You can still get the blurb on the CBC web site under Beyond Burgers or something like that( http://www.cbc.ca/metromorning/beyond_burgers/). The other event, I'm leaving to James to discuss. The coffee/ocean thing will have to wait untill another time lest the blog will be to long, it will still be highly entertaining, however. I leave the floor or the keys to you James.
No more muffins kids, sorry.
The omelette is caramelized fennel and cheddar.
We have my "Pickled Madness" sandwich today (Artichoke hearts, dill pickles, and pickled egg salad with aioli). CRAZY!
The soup is spiced red bean and garlic.
Kristan and a very pissed off James
This past Tuesday around lunch time while Doug and Kristan (KK for short) were very busy some guy came in to "use the washroom" and stole our computer! Who does that? What motherfucker walks into a place and grabs an eight year old lap top? I think he's worse than a motherf**ker, he's an unclef**ker, fatherf**ker, 2ndcousintwiceremovedf**ker, he's fucked the whole family reunion! That computer was worth maybe twenty bucks to anyone esle but it had all sorts of stuff that was important to us: recipes, staff payroll info, and all those unrated blog entries that Heidi wouldn't let me publish becuase they had words like, c**t, *ssh*le, c*cks**ker and Tommo.
I'm glad I got that off my chest.
Sorry for the tardiness posting this but it's been busy in here even before our lovely CBC review settled in

I'm supposed to make this quick because James has to go for his massage today. "I'm going for my massage in an hour." "Trish got her benefits on November 1st so I have to use $500 worth of massages before the year's end and then I can start on my other $500." "I can't decide if I want cranial sacrel work or a foot massage. I think I'll get the foot massage." "Don't spend long on your blog, I have to leave for my massage."
We have on order of Blueberry pancakes left $5
Blueberry muffins
Baby spinach and cheddar omelette
Spiced red bean and garlic soup.
This is completely off the massage topic, I think we've heard enough though, all this said in fun. How would you answer these two questions?
1) What is the ocean to you?
2) What is coffee to you?
The reason for these questions will be revealed on Thursday.
Kristan (still in a good mood massage or not.)

After a somewhat tumultuous weekend we are back to Monday which for me, is always the calm after the storm.
The omellette is butternut squash and a lovely old cheddar that we picked up from Gus at Alex Farms
As a nod to Johnny and the gang at the Jet Fuel the muffins are pear and chocolate-chip
The soup is tomato and pasta
To nice things happened this past Saturday. First, Trish came in a baked some cheese-cake brownies that rocked and those awesome chocolate-chip oatmeal cookies that she made a few weeks ago made a welcomed reappearance. I shall have to ask her for the recipe so we can make them during the week. Second, journalist Catherine Jheon came by to interview Doug and me for CBC's Metro Morning. I'm pretty sure I came off sounding like a crank and to me Doug looked like that kid at the front of the class giving a book report. That aside, if you want to give us the benefit of the doubt then listen to Catherine on Thursday November 10 at 7:25AM, the segment is called Beyond Burgers.
Kristan is dressed somewhat conservatively today, I expect she had a bit of a weekend to recover from too. A smart black turtleneck and vintage plaid pants. The pants sort of remind me of that book report kid too.

Speaking of cans of worms, yesterday our Douglas got stuck on the gardiner expressway for almost two hours on his way back from the farmers market. The whole time he couldn't relax, just sit in the car and enjoy the nice weather becuase he really had to take a whiz. Oh dear and to make things worse I had neglected to tell him that the gas tank was near empty and that it should've been filled BEFORE he went to the market. I suppose he could've solved all his problems by just getting out right there on the highway and pissing in the gas tank. Truthfully, I was the one really inconvienced. Around the time Doug was wondering what was gonna go first, the car or his bladder, the lunch rush was on at MG and I was rapidly running out of tomatoes and lettuce.
the omelet is roasted red pepper and asiago cheese
the muffins were banana
the soup is chickpea masala
we have a croque monsiuer(my appologies to the French) which is Mennonite ham, Gruyere cheese and dijon on grilled sesame bread for $6 (seriously, I appologise to the French, it really must be tough being French)
This weekend come to Morning Glory for our waffle and sausage patty special. I'm told it's fantastic. Belgian style waffles and farmers sausage topped with banana-blueberry compote and served with real maple syrup.
Doug looks visibly less shaken today and should be himself by tomorrow

My boyfriend bought this arcade game collection that you can use on Playstation because it had my most favorite childhood game on it, Bubble Bobble. The game is about two children who are turned into bubble blowing dinosaurs and they have to save something or other, you blow bubbles arround the bad guys and pop them and then they turn into fruit! I played it for a very long time last night, no, I mean I was up reading Crime and Punishment. What I also realized about video games from the 80s is that they were either about sugary round cartoon characters or extremely violent and dark fighting like Mortal Kombat or this other one called Ninja Kids where ninja kids have to defeat the satanists ruling their town. It used to be so simple.
Out of yummy spiced currant and walnut muffins on account of James burning 3. Just this once James then you're in trouble.
Mushroom and cheddar omelette
Tomato basmati rice soup.
See ya
Kristan
P.S. Maybe I shouldn't have opened the can of worms about slutty James.

the soup today is pepper squash and parsnip
the pancakes are raspberry
the muffins are blueberry
the omelette is pear and asiago cheese
Kristan asks how would I slut it up? It probably doesn't bear thinking about. However if you asked Trish it's probably when I come home from work with take-out from Mimi and a promise of three good ones after dinner!
