Smelled like caramel corn when I bounded off the street car this morning and I thought to myself "Hey, this is a pretty nice way to start a Monday off." It's sunny too and a lazy morning here at the MG. Pretty good, like the grub.

Monday's classic is back for another week. Bacon, brie and caramelized onion on a chiabatta for $5

Mushroom and goat cheese ( Heidi wrote GOUT cheese on the board yesterday. If that's what you really want I'm sure it can be arranged.) omelette.

To all my sweet potatos we have a soup for you.

And lastly but not leastly chocolate chip muffins.

If you missed the caramel corn too bad but it's still sunny.

Just the waitress who's desperatly attempting to combat the pre conceived notions about Mondays

Ode to the Obnoxious Guy on the King Streetcar at 7am

I knew the streetcar was late and it was rush hour. So did you. I saw the driver get out, go across the street, get a squeegee from the flourescent gas station, wipe down his windows and take his sweet ass time coming back and getting comfy in his already comfy chair. I was thankful he didn't get a coffee as well. You would have none of it. You piped up. "Can we get a move on!" You shouted from the back of the street car where all the cool kids sit, except at 7am when it's the Bay street croud. I am convinced that the driver sat through 4 red lights because of your protest. I was shoved back to the cool kid sectoin and saw you slouched comfortably reading the Globe. You, sitting comfortably reading the Globe, kept whispering sweet nothings that were sometings to you to the stranger beside you. "Oh here's another light we missed.", "This is the worst steetcar driver of all time." and the poetically general: "This is rediculous!" We all heard you. We all knew that when you turned your head you were looking to see how many other TTC vehicles had piled up behind us. We all thought it was rediculous too. We didn't pipe up. We didn't see the point. We were all going to be late. We all had a valid excuse. I was set on enjoying the ride. It was difficult to block you out like an exboyfriend who cheated on you with your own mother, stole your dog, ate your last leftover Pilsbury turnover when he came to get his stuff, and spat on the empty plate with apple goo in his saliva.

We have Apple pancakes that don't shout obscenities today.

The omelette is a hodgepodge of zuccini, tomato, onion and cheddar.

Mixed berry muffins.

Yummy yummy potato leek soup.

I love you all.

Just the" I know the TTC sucks but just try to enjoy the ride and don't make it worse for other people" waitress.

I rented Harold and Maude on that stormy saturday night. I love that movie so much. I'm not returning it for a whole week. That's it. That's the blogg. You'll have to be satisfied with that because that's really all you're getting. I'm not fooling around here. Okay, maybe I'll give you this to chew on:

Bacon, brie caramelized onion on a chiabatta for $5. Come on, you guys should know that one by now.

This one too: chocolate chip muffins.

Arugula and cheddar omelette.

Tomato, corn, chipotlie chowder. Someone asked me the deffinition of "chowder" yesterday and I, being the self proclaimed genius that I am, had no clueas to what it was. I looked it up today. It said something about fish and shells and stuff which confused me because all of our soups are vegan. I then looked to the second defenition which read " a soup similar to this seafood dish: corn chowder." OH! That wasn't exciting enough for me so I've concocted up some synonyms (one of which is concoction.)
DISHWATER
ELIXER
HODGEPODGE
this one's my favorite: VICHISSOISE. Sounds romantic.

Bye now. Come in and order with one of these names and win self respect for the day.

Just the wordsmith waitress

Didn't blog yesterday. It was impossible to type with my mittens on. Today I am wearing gloves but I sure do wish I had some tear away long johns! Yes folks you heard it here first, one day I'm going to quit the restaurant biz and invent tear-away long johns! You may laugh if you want but I already have some interested buyers.

The cold water pipe is frozen so the espresso machine is down but we still have our scrumptious food!

We have a yummy guacamole and cheddar omelette. You can sit here in the restaurant and close your eyes and dream about the sandy beaches in Mexico while eating it.

Or you can have a banana muffin and think about touring banana farms in Cuba!
Ah..... Cuba......I could sure go for a Mojito right now. Sure it's only 9:30 in the morning but it would really help with warming up the body.

You should try some of our pear and spinach soup and dream about picking fruit in the south of France.

I had a really hard time getting out of bed this morning. This cold is really affecting my brain. At one point I thought I walked out of Betty's without paying my bill last night. Isn't that funny Doug or maybe it's just the alcohol that is doing it to me.

Stay warm and don't forget to wear your LONG JOHNS!

Tuesday, January 18, 2005

Wore a skirt today without my trusty wool sox. How was I supposed to know it was cold? It's winter, you never can tell. Then I ran from Parliment (short turn street car) and I couldn't breathe. I was late. The point of all this blabber is that every cold feeling, thought, and pain went away when I walked into work. All right it took my first coffee but who's for details? Come in, forget the cold, and laugh at all the people walking by the window.

We have peachy pancakes.

Yummy banana walnut muffins.

Baby spinach and havarti omelette.

Butternut squash soup.

Our body warming goodies (so what if it's only from the sugar rush) include: Chocolate walnut brownies $2.5
Chocolate cake $3
Carrot Cake with walnuts, pineapple, and lemon
icing $4

You don't have to laugh at the people outside. I'm just saying that if you do laugh, we won't judge you. That's the kind of folk we are here at the big little MG.

Just the warm and non-judgemental waitress.

Monday, January 17, 2005

Hmmmmm. What to say? Not much.

The omelette is arugula and cheddar.

The muffins are chocolate chip.

The soup is lentil.

We have the bacon brie and caramelized onion on a chiabatta bun for $5.

And we've got some brownies and some chocolate cake.

The combination of Monday and good food has left me quite speechless or writeless. Wordless? See what I mean. Just get your bums over here for some good Heidi cookin'.

Sincerely,
Just the what's the word? Oh well.

Friday, January 14, 2005

Did you wear your long johns today? I did. I hate wearing layers. Yesterday was a treat, but of course it would start to rain as James and I got off work. At least the sun is out today.

Today we have a green and orange omelette (spinach and cheddar).

The muffins are invisible (they just disappeared).

We have a fungi and nightshade soup (mushroom and potato).

For all you Jim fans out there we have it on special today. "The Jim Davison" (named after James's Grandfather. Yummy cheddar and gruyere with crispy bacon and granny smith with dijon mustard on toasted sesame bread for $5 bucks!!!!

Have a wonderful weekend. You should come in for brunch this weekend and amuse me.

Stayed up until 1:30 watching Faulty Towers and then decided to do laundry so you're all getting a brief blogg today. It's probably better though. All you really want to know is what we're cooking up.

Peachy keen pancakes for $5

Spinach and cheddar omelette ( spelled the good old fashioned way.)

Blueberry with a hint of mixed berries, courtesy of Heidi's muffin making magic.

Split pea curry soup.

And we still have some brownies.

Come in and get it and maybe I'll do some sleepy John Cleese impressions. Maybe not.

How many ways can one spell OMELETTE? Let's see: umlette, ahmlet, omlet, ahmeltte, 0m3l3tt3, ect, ect. Why am I having so much nerdy fun you ask? Not because I've lost it, although I know a few individuals who would say I have fallen off my little old rocker if I ever had a rocker in the first place. But because I just realized LAST WEEK that I the grammatically mish mashed and now spelling inept waitress has been spelling OMELETTE wrong ever since she began serving them here. Every Monday and Tuesday I would confidently write out OMLETTE on both our sandwich boards and in the blogg ( which I was also spelling wrong for a time.) So come in feel better about your selves because you know how to spell. Hey, and if you can't spell maybe we can be friends. Heck, even if you can spell we can be friends and I can learn from all of you. That's what we're here for, and for good food of course. Speaking of which, our specials today are:

Bacon brie and caramelized onion on a chiabatta bun. $5

Roasted red pepper and parmesan omElette.

Chocolate chip muffins.

Chilli, tomato, and corn soup.

And we do have our lovely chocolate walnut brownies today.

Sea yoo awl ceoon. Kum en ent eeet gud foud.

Love,
Just the waitress

P.S. We are still collecting donations for the Red Cross which we will match down to the last penny.

tomato, fresh oregano and cheddar omelet

chickpea masala soup

blueberry muffins

blueberry pancakes

the usual good quality fare

Happy new year to all our customers, it's good to be back cooking for you. I've only been off for a week but it feels like it's been three.

Monday, January 03, 2005

Wow, we're back. How's every one doing? How are things? Have you eaten breakfast at all in these past 11 days? Let me put it this way, have you eaten good breakfast in the past 11 days? Come on, fess up. I won't tell grandma if you say no. But how do you know if you can trust me? I could very well tell grandma. Or I could blackmail you with the knowledge that you are disgusted by grandma's breakfasts. Or I could follow my New Years resolution and not blackmail anymore. I really don't have a resolution. In grade 5, I made a resolution not to have any more resolutions, but I'm making one up for the sake of wit or dry humour if you will.

The omelette today is leek and havarti.

The muffins are a perfect chocolate chip.

The soup is chickpea masala.

And we also have a lovely blueberry cake.

Come in and have a good breakfast today. I'm not saying you haven't had good breakfast in a while. I'm not saying anything.

Just the double crossing waitress.
