I'm stepping out of this old brown shoe...

I've resisted doing the usual muffin this morning and opted for something completely radical. Today's muffin is cranberry/mango or crango for short. Manberry is another good contraction of the two fruits but, ew! Nobody wants a manberry muffin for breakfast do they? So that's me doing things on the edge. Watch out! He's a killer...

The omelet is a prim tomato and brie

The soup is a prudish tomato vegetable

The coffee is tasty and completely non threatening

Remember that MG is closing at one o'clock tomorrow, unless we run out of food in which case we will close earlier, and abruptly.

There was a flood in the basement today, maybe it has something to do with the locusts on the other side of the world. BUT we do have cold water today and our espresso machine is working! You mightn't have known about our problems from yesterday, but the previous sentence sums them up. How was that for a backwards sentence? Bakwards sentence it is you I love. The sentence of the backwards type is the thing that I love. I, the one who happens to write sentences, love the backwards ones.

Sure is not a backwards day here at the glorious morning. We have plenty of specials that face the right way; Right into your mouths.

ANANAB pancakes for a lovely crisp five dollar bill. We don't accept flimsy bills.

We have a mushroom and cheddar omlette or was that cheddar and mushroom? Palindrome anyone? But not really at all. But good enough for me!

Berryblue muffins.

Briepearandcaramelizedonion, caramelizedonionbrieandpear, pearcaramelizedonionandbrie (THIS ONE CONFUSES ME!)
It's on a chiabatta bun.

Just the backwards Waitress,
SIncerely

I'm a little scared to do the blog this morning but here it goes. Seeing as I've been complaining about the lovely weather all morning, I'm going to try and change it up a bit.

7 REASONS WHY THIS WEATHER IS FANTASTICK!

1- Warm things seem warmer.
2- Hot things are amazing.
3- Cold things don't seem cold
4- You can go around the city incognito. I've always wanted to be a spy.
5- You don't have to say "Hi" to people you don't like because of reason 4.
6- You can snuggle up to random people on the TTC and they won't notice because of all the layers.
7- Breakfast will taste that much better.

Speaking of breakfast, our specials today are:

Arugula and cheddar omlette.

Chocolate chip muffins.

Sweet potato and carrot soup.

Sincerely,
Just the cold waitress

The omelet is sauteed zucchini and mixed cheeses

The muffins are gone so don't even consider it.

The soup is broccoli and potato

The sandwich is the original MG chicken club. It's not curried. Just plain. Plain old chicken breast on a toasted ciabatta bun with dijon mustard, centre cut bacon, crisp lettuce, tomato and aoili. Just plain.

Thursday, December 16, 2004

The omelet today is sauteed pear and scallion with brie.

The muffins were mixed berry, but the high school kids bought most of them first thing this morning and Patrick got the last one.

The soup is broccoli and potato

The sandwich special was fried chicken breast marinated in Tex-Mex style seasoning, crisp lettuce, topped with sun-dried tomato and yogurt salsa. I say was because I sold nine of them already and wasn't even 11:30.

We have fresh walnut brownies courtesy of Hildy.

Went to the jet fuel on Tuesday for the first time in a while for a cafe americano, what a ride! I've been more or less off caffeine since the start of November so it hit me like speed. I shall be doing that again over the holidays for sure.

So as you well know, we have had plethra of complaints (two) about this here blogg. The first being about their negative nature the second about their mediocrity. Here's the deal, if you want them to be happy, you can't turn around and insult my competence. I'm fine now, but I went home and cried myself to sleep. I ask you, how can my sad little body possibly house happy feelings when I am bombarded with comments on my medoicrity? To find the answer, I turned to the book I am reading right now: The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath. Who else would I turn to when in need of up lifting advice? There's a quote in the book that goes a little like this: " I've spent two hours writing stream of consiousness when my stream isn't much to brag about, after all." This was Sylvia Plath. I mean she won a Pulitzer didn't she? So I thought maybe I'm harbouring some incredible genius in my little bloggs and all of you cynics out there just aren't capable of seeing it because I'm so above all of you!

I should probably just get to the specials before I get in too much trouble.

The pancakes are gone. It probably has to do with all the complaining.

The omlette is a biggy: cheddar, marble, and gouda with leeks.

Blueberry muffins.

Spicyspicyspicy Tomato and rice soup.

Just the self proclaimed genius waitress

Monday, December 13, 2004

The omelet is mixed fresh herbs and goat cheese

The muffins are chocolate chip

The soup is SPICY tomato and rice

It's Monday so we have bacon, brie and caramelized onion on toasted ciabatta

Hildy has made lovely apple squares

So I would just like to respond to the recent complaints about the quality and tone of our blogs. Yes Heidi is tired alot, she's never been a morning person, and Kristan finds commuting here from Parkdale a grind, especially in the cold and dark and I do rant because I'm grumpy, that's life. That was the point of the blog, to post the specials and share what's going on in life at Morning Glory. If we could write down the funny and lovely events that happen every day as they unfold we would be too busy to serve you the best coffee east of Parliament, cook you fluffy omelets or fresh muffins or chat about what's going down at King and Gilead. So what you really need to do to get a true flavour of this place is to come in, sit down, enjoy our witty banter, eat some delicious food, pay us and leave.

Speaking of rants. Why can't they come up with some genetically modified Canadian tomatoes? Splice them with polar bear ass genes so we can grow them year 'round in the snow instead of paying $3.99 a pound for "beefsteaks" from Florida which I've had hemroids bigger than!

So we have to pump the bloggs with more than a couple doses of sunshine due to a complaint that they were too depressing. But I ask you: isn't complaining a negative thing? If we were really positive shouldn't we all be happy with what we get? Grin and bear it as my mother says. I'm just joking, in the most kind hearted and loving way.

I was thinking that the nature of the blogg has something to do with SAD (Symptoms include sleep problems, lethargy, overeating, depression, social problems mood changes, anxiety, loss of libido. None of which i have.) that seasonal depression thing. I'm not quite sure what it stands for, but I do know what my new outlook does. This winter I will now suffer, but not suffer because that's SAD, from HAPPY: Had A Pretty Perfect Year syndrome. This will definately ensure cheerier bloggs for all you lovelies out there.

The super special omlette is baby spinach and cheddar.

The muffins were so good they're gone. It would be best to keep their flavour secret, we don't want you guys salivating for something you can't have.

We have tato and leek soup.

Scrumptious homemade sausage patties on a bun for $5

And a sh- ahem, whole bunch of yummy deserts. Come and get 'em.

Sun shine lollipops and rainbows everything that's wonderful is what I feel when I see your smiling hungry faces!

More than Just the Waitress.

This is going to be rough today. Rough like trudging up hill with five crying babies on your back and the hill happens to be a volcano. My brain isn't quite functioning. Not functioning as in broken. So the blogg will be even more scattered than ever and the least clever of all. You thought yesterday was bad well . . . it was. But this is BADDER. Badder as in:

PANCAKES (How was that for a segue?) banana that is.

The muffins are roasted almond and chocolate chip.

The omlette is caramelized onion and cheddar.

We also have a croque monsieur with soup or salad for $7 folks.

No closing remark today kids. Closing remark as in something clever to make you forget the first bit.

Just the waitress.

Snow. Snowy. Snowing. White stufff that's cold. Flakes of blank. Crunch crunch under my moccassins, because I didn't wear boots because I didn't know what the sky was planning for today. Let's face it, this blog is neither clever nor amusing. This is where I would usually blame it on the day of the week but I always do that. You guys are probably all screaming "Get some new material!" So I decided to go along with the inspiration that nature gave me, and I'm still writing crap. Does that say something about nature or me? Sigh.

Of course we have the bacon brie and caramelized onion sandwich on a chiabatta bun.

The omlette is mushroom and cheddar.

The soup is mushroom because we like to switch it up around here.

The muffins are blueberry. Heidi got them perfectly right today, but. . . then we realized that monday is the chocolate chip day. All send your condolences to Heidi at getthef@*$#ingmuffinsrightheidi@yahoo.ca
Okay, so we really did set up an adress because that's humour, but they wouldn't allow the profanity. They said it wasn't ladylike. The new adress is getthemuffinsrightheidi@yahoo.ca

Well Mr. or Mrs. Weather maybe next time your inspiration will not be wasted on someone like me.

Saw Feist last night. Couldn't stay for the whole thing because I am getting old and I felt my back was going to give out! Plus I found that most of the audience was interested in chatting than listening to her sing. But mostly my tired old bones wanted to be in bed.

So the famous chicken curry club is on special today for $8.00 with your choice of soup or salad.

The soup is butternut squash.

One banana muffin left.

Tomato, fresh parsley and gouda omelette. Yes, it does sound very "gouda" Richard! You're so funny!

Have a good weekend and if I were you I would stay under the covers in bed all weekend!

Thursday, December 02, 2004

Well, we've sold out of our cranberry walnut muffins by 8:45 this morning. I think that's a record for us.

The omelette today is baby spinach and cheddar omelette.

We have a curried lentil soup.

No special sandwich today but we will have one tomorow.

Thanks to all our regular customers and friends that have supported us through the past year. We are coming up to our 1st anniversary and we couldn't have done it without you!

Thanks Steven Davey for giving us the NNNN's!!!!
