So this is my second day (actually yesterday was a half day) of working in this fine, hip establisment with good friends, great food and wonderful customers! Who knew it would be so fun?! I started the morning off with with a savoury cup of coffee and one heck of a yummy, to-die-for chocolate chip muffin. Coming back from a year away in France I thought I would not be into the North American muffin mania but James' recipe proved me wrong. Monsieur James now.
So today's artistic and taste bud heightening specials include; delightful from scratch (as practically everything but the kitchen sink here is - even the soon to be world famous ketchup! ...impressive I know) honest to goodness
strawberry pancakes
green onion, zuchinni and asiago omlette
croque monsieur and smokey tomato bean soup or salad.
So come on in, enjoy the funky, clean, friendly atmosphere and become a regular! Surtout bon appetite mes amis!
Cheers,
Michele

Good Morning!
The omelette today is tomato, fresh chive and goat cheese.
We have blueberry muffins.
The soup is smokey tomato and bean.
So I was riding my bike home on friday night and wiped out. My face is one big swollen mess so you should come on in and check out the freak show. Don't worry I won't be serving your plates of food! Renee has been kind enough to take the day off from work and serve for me. Did I tell you that I have great friends?! In fact I will tell you how great they have been. We had the amazing Tommo serve on the weekend and did a fabulous job. Elliott took over when Tommo had to leave and Doug stopped by and brought me some drugs!!!!! (The legal kind. Get your mind out of the gutter people!) So I just want to say thank you very much you guys. I'm a very lucky person to have such wonderful friends like you! (I think this blow to my head has changed me! I'm not so much of a bitch anymore Anthony!)

That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England...David Beckam's divots.
Well, it means I'm still in the pool at Betty's. Cynical but there you go, I am a Germany supporter.
Cheer up you En-ger-lish. I've made a curried chicken sandwich just for you, its been marinated in yogurt and topped with onion & tomato raita.
The muffins are strawberry
The omelet is grilled zucchini, fresh chive and havarti
The soup is mushroom
Heidi is off tomorrow and Tommo will be waitressing in her place, so be kind everyone. Why has Heidi got the day off? She's off to Barrie to see her friend Lisa who along with her husband Jeff just had a baby boy named Caleb(is that the spelling?)

Germany is out of the Euro'04 competition. It's only a game and I'm not upset.
The soup today is the salt of my tears
The muffins are bitter fruit of defeat
and the omelet, the omelet is crow
now leave me alone
Oh James, but you forgot to mention that the CR has a perfect score going into the quarter finals! Yes folks, I'm cheering for my newly adopted country! You can join me on Sunday afternoon while I'm watching the game at Betty's.
So the real soup today is tomato and mushroom.
The muffins are honey and walnut.
The omelette is roasted red pepper and asiago cheese.
And don't forget to leave James alone!
ps... Doug rocks!

Soup is fresh mint gazpacho, if indeed that's how it's spelt. Let's just call it cold mint & tomato soup.
The omelet is fresh tomato, fresh herbs from the MG garden and Camembert cheese, very exciting for an omelet and French cheese is much more exciting than French football! That's right I said that! I fell asleep during their game against the Swiss yesterday. I was woken with a start by my own snores and it was still the same boring game.
The muffins are banana.
The rosti is different these days as I got the wrong potatoes at the food terminal last week. Hopefully you won't notice a difference, but I do as I'm uptight when it comes to the wrong potatoes.
Tomorrow I'll be at Betty's watching Germany play the Czechs if anyone want's to join me. Heidi will be cheering for her new adopted country becuase she fell so much in love with Prague...and to be contrary to me!
Remember '96! Go Germany!

The omelette today is carmelized onion and brie.
We have a Morning Glory Gazpacho made with some fresh mint from Elizabeth's garden.
The muffins are blueberry.
We have the pork schnitzel on a bun with a side of tomato salad.
It's Monday and I need a drink!!!!!!!!!
To Tommo,
I was really upset by your childish behaviour on our busy Sunday and I really hope you won't try to pull a fast one on me again! You can come and eat here just don't step on the toes of the person who cares for you! (Or I'll ship you back to England).
Love,
Heidi

It's a rainy crappy day and the prep kitchen has reached 21C. Doug will be down there most of the day doing my bidding. Hahahahahahaha!
Germany was a bit of a disappointment on Tuesday, the soccer team not the nation, blowing a 1-0 lead over the Dutch. A draw was better than a loss but only just.
Okay food.
The omelet is asparagus and gruyere.
The soup is vegetable.
The muffins are chips ahoy.
If I may make a suggestion, today is the best kind of day to have a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon and a side of coleslaw or a cup of soup.

Oh England! You have only lost one battle and you will prevail in the end as you always do. Unless it goes to penalties.
Speaking of England, does anyone know the origin of the word "butty"? I think it's a northern thing.
The omelet today is fresh tomato, basil and asiago
The muffins are blueberry, and the blueberries are wild, not those overblown cultivated ones you get from the states. The wild ones are smaller and a little more tart and we always prefer a little more tart 'round here.
the soup is tomato and red bean. I know It's a strange combo but I had run out of lentils and wanted some legumes in there.
Tomorrow my team takes on the Dutch. I think Germany can win it, they can play very well in the big games but I am bracing myself for humiliation. Further more, part of me actually believes that we can go the distance again. I must be tilting at windmills...or maybe it's my English half.

The special today is cold roast beef on a toasted bun with sauteed red onions, crisp lettuce, and a smear of shallot and blue cheese gravy. It sandwich comes witha side of homemade coleslaw. The omelet is leek and cheddar and becuase it's the end of the week for most people I've made chocolate chunk/walnut and banana muffins.
Now, the soup...if cooking is a reflection of one's innerself (I'm not saying it is I'm saying if) then what would people make of me based on my soup? So, the soup is curried ginger and chickpea made with mango and onion stock and fresh thyme from Heidi's little herb garden out back.
Today has been strange and it's only just past eleven.

Looks like today is gonna be a scorcher! Finally! I don't want to hear any complaints, we all bitched about the cold and now we got what we needed.
It was great to see Geoff, Andy and the kids yesterday. It was visiting day, the Creightons came from Calgary and John and Kirsten came by from Egbert (is that how it's spelt?) and even Alex Vanderploeg showed up. Yes Ian, we saw Alex without prebooking.
The omelet is sauteed red onion and tomato with swiss gruyere.
The soup is Tim's borsht.
The muffins are banana.
Hannah is helping out today and Heidi is in the kitchen. What am I doing you ask? Standing typing this goofy thing. Now I shall get a coffee and maybe have one of those muffins...

I'm very excited today, Zoe and Cohen are visiting from Calgary today and they're bringing their parents. The have a layover here before flying on to Halifax for their aunt's wedding. I haven't seen them in over a year since they left Toronto. I haven't seen their mom and dad since then either.
Heidi requested the strawberry muffins again as she liked them so much on Friday. Tim from across the street was helping out over the weekend while Elliott was in Montreal covering a music festival for his production company. Tim did a great job washing dishes and made a wonderful borsht for today.
If anyone is having a sandwich for lunch then consider having a side of our homemade coleslaw with it.
The omelet is arugula with a blend of cheeses, a little cheddar a little havarti and a little gruyere. Be adventurous and ask for a little blue cheese.
I have lot's of apple if anyone wants a Jim Davison. Ask for some blue cheese on it, be adventurous.

nobody has sent any ideas for new CDs. you disapoint me, all of you.
“Who will cut our hair when we are gone?” -- The Unicorns
Canadian lads from Montreal, one of the best CD's
I have bought this year. Sounds like the Shins meet XTC / The Cars.
“Echoes” -- The Rapture
Still one of my faves, even if they don’t don’t know what “rye” means
Sounds like: NYC
“Tighten Up” -- Trojan Records 1968 – 1974
Amazing reggae from likes of Toots and the Maytals, Delroy Wilson, The Heptones and more
Sounds like: Graham’s apartment after 1pm

Well the wonderfully yummy strawberry muffins have sold out! I'd have to say that they are the best ones yet. You've really outdone yourself this time James!
Mr. Simon Bower dropped by to have some breakfast. He has promised to come by again so I can take a picture of his Birch Mobile! It's a sight to see. I will one day post it on our picture page for all of you to see.
The chicken caesar is on the menu today along with the tomango salad.
The omelette is mushroom and cheddar.
The soup today is mushroom. (we bought some fresh Ontario mushrooms when we were at the food terminal the other day. so yes we have a mushroom theme going on today!)
We also have a grilled chicken sandwich with sauteed mushrooms! and a blue cheese spread on baguette served with a side of slaw for $8.00.
I think that is all for today. I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend. I hear the weather will be nice!

So you called to complain that the blog hasn't been posted yet! Well some people have work to do! Got that lady! If I recall someone was getting lazy with her blog, Everybody's Girl!!!!!!! We can take it outside next time you come to the T dot O!!!!!!!!!!
So now that I've gotten that out of my system.....here are the specials for today:
The omelette is leek and havarti.
Our soup today is tomato.
We have some super huge roasted almond and chocolate chunk muffins.
A chicken caesar salad with our homemade dressing.
Are you ready for this......
Tomango and tuna salad! Tomango salad you ask? Tomato and mango with tuna on top! It's yummy! You should try it.
So I would say that you are probably the nicest guys in your building, Tommo and Doug. I don't agree with being in the top 10 in Toronto or the World. After all I have spent many a evening drinking pints with the two of you! Don't let that English accent fool you people and Doug isn't as loveable as he looks you know!

Still lazy...what of it?
The muffins are ridiculously oversized today and full of banana and walnuts so I'm quite pleased with myself this morning.
The omelet is baby spinach and gruyere and the soup is a very spicy chipotle pepper, bean and corn chowder.
Heidi is outside gardening and it looks like it will be a nice day, and I am now going to sit down, have a cofee and do the crossword for five miutes...can you give me just five minutes?
