She’s got a ticket to ride, she’s got a ticket to ride…

Well today is Heidi’s departure for Europe. We’re very excited for but also a little sad that she’ll be gone. As well as myself, I think Jack is distinctly feeling blue about Heidi being away for almost three weeks. I hope she thinks of us at least once when she’s sitting in a café in the south of France planning her rail trips to Amsterdam, Berlin, Vienna, Budapest and Prague.

The muffins today are walnut and banana, we have blueberry pancakes and an asparagus and cheddar omelet.

If you haven’t tried the cream cheese, bacon, and tomato on toasted baguette then you are missing out. I need to come up with a name for that one like “a ccbt”

We also have a Cesar salad, which is more the vinaigrette kind than one of those creamy types, the kind that David Ginsberg calls the TGI Friday Caesar.

Monday, March 29, 2004

The omelette today is broccoli and cheddar and I leave for Europe tomorow!

Our soup today is garden vegetable and I will be starting my European vacation in Perpignan which is in the south of France!

The muffins today are blueberry and I will be spending Easter weekend in Prague!

We have a ceasar salad on the menu today but I think I will definitely miss my bacon and eggs while I'm away. Ok maybe not so much seeing that I'm going to be eating wonderful food while I'm on vacation!

I just found out that I will be going to some thermal baths while I'm in Budapest! I really do think that I won't want to come back! I'll let you know if I open a Morning Glory in Prague!

Tschuss!

Friday, March 26, 2004

I hate rainy days even if they are on a Friday.

The schnitzel is still on and we have butterscotch muffins.

The omelet is tomato and havarti.

that is all.

Oh wait we have a ceasar salad now! nice

well you can't expect rambling all the time

Thursday, March 25, 2004

The countdown is on for Heidi's departure to France. She tries not to smile too much and I try not to snarl...I have seen the pictures of Perpignan, they have palm trees.

Anyhoo...
omelette is zucchini (sp.?) and cheddar
muffins are chocolate chip
soup is tomato basil (smells heavenly too)

We have Wiener Schnitzel on the menu today. The real McCoy. Served up with German potato salad, homemade pickled beets and pickled red cabbage. Ausgezeichnet! For a measly 8 dollars.

Auf Wiedersehen!

PANCAKES!PANCAKES!PANCAKES!

Omelet today is pesto and asiago, the muffins are spiced pear, the soup is tomato and lentil and we have a new sandwich! It is bacon, tomato and cream cheese on toasted baguette.

I should break the news to anyone who hasn't heard yet, Heidi is going to Europe for the first two weeks in April. While the rest of us are sloshing about in the cold and damp trying to avoid the newly uncovered dog shit, Heidi will be staying in the south of France and spending Easter in Prague with trips to Amsterdam and Vienna in between. Oh, and her last four days before returning here will be spent at an auberge in the Alsatian countryside. That bit she can write off as "research" and let's hope she brings back some new ideas for Morning Glory to temper our raging jealousy.

As for Martina and me, we have decided to close up shop for Easter inorder to take a break and spend time with family. We are closing Wednesday April 8th to Saturday April 10th. We will be open Easter Sunday and Monday. I plan to drink heavily and sleep through the visiting with family bit. Perhaps I'll send Tommo in my place, he's much more agreeable and makes better dinner conversation then I would droning on and on about MG, like I am now.

Doug, thanks for the zucchini, wink, wink

Monday, March 22, 2004

So I was at the pub Friday night (this is Heidi typing) and was informed by Doug about this new term that is floating about. Are you ready for this? Flexetarianism! For those of you who are not familiar, flexetarians are vegetarians who eat meat occasionally!!!!!!!!!!!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So for all you fexetarians out there we have a really good rosemary chicken sandwich with a side of tomato salad today!

The soup is spicy Mexican. (Hmm.... maybe I'll become a mexitarian! One who eats non Mexican food occasionally!)

The omelette is pear and gruyere. (Or maybe I should become a pearatarian! One who sways from eating foods with pear in it occasionally!)

We have mango muffins today! Are there any mangotarians out there? If so then we are the place for you!

It's so cold today that I had to break out my long johns! Damn you spring! Where are you? Stop being a tease!

Friday, March 19, 2004

Sitting here having a coffee and listening to Tangiers who are an awesome band, Heidi and I were fortunate to see them a few weeks ago along with Metric.

So we have the mushroom sandwich again and it’s rather a sloppy meal but oh so tasty. The bacon crisis has been averted so its full bore with the BLTs and butties! I think people should try both at the same time, what could be better than a breakfast butty washed down with a BLT? Throw a buttery rosti on there and it’d be HEAVEN.

Jack and Heidi are currently arguing the merits of Sarah Polley. Before that they were arguing about women and welding. Jack has to do that thing with his hair again, it was funny.

I want to thank Doug for doing an emergency run to the market for us yesterday. Doug has been our biggest supporter on this venture. He was feeling a little down yesterday, like his pants weren't fitting properly or something. Doug quite literally built Morning Glory and he’s worked in and managed restaurants for years. Doug was guiding my fledging cooking experience a dozen years ago, from those curried Kraft dinners in film school to putting mayonnaise on fried egg sandwiches which is a cornerstone of Morning Glory. AOILI ON EVERYTHING!

The soup is French Onion.

The muffins are chocolate chip.

has anyone seen this? www.rathergood.com/moon_song

Thursday, March 18, 2004

I've just been told by Andy, one of our regulars that the breakfast butty beats an egg mcmuffin by a long way! Thanks Andy! Have fun in Ottawa this weekend.

Our special today is a grilled mushroom sandwich on a toasted bun with cream cheese. Good lord! How can people pass that one up?

we are having bacon supply problems, so I appologize for the quality today. Don't worry we'll sort it out with tofu and you'll never know the difference. hahahahahaha. I am truly evil.

the muffins are walnut and banana.

the weather is sh*t but at least it's sunny.

so...Tommo, wink, wink! How was St Paddy's day then?

The omlete is a morning glory classic, zucchinni, sauted onion and asiago cheese.

The guys at cactus gave me an awesome idea for next week's special. I shall turn to my ancestral roots for this one. No its not boild meat and two veg. Cactus were responsible for our business cards and you can see their work at cactusdynamo.com

Well, here we go, more snow. I am buying a lottery ticket today just on the basis of the weather. It has driven me to the edge...

omelette - baby spinach and guyere
muffins - wild blueberry
soup - butternut squash

Has anybody else noticed how mangey the squirrels are looking this spring? They look like they are sporting little white sweaters. It has been very quiet these days, I have too much time to look out the window...
Martina

Well if March did come in like a lion its certainly changing into a miserable little lamb.

In honour of this being the ides of March, the day poor Julie Caesar got whacked, we’ve gone a bit Italian. We have a Tuscan bean soup and a pesto omelet and that would be pesto made here from fresh basil shipped directly in from California on only the finest Semis after being hand picked by skilled migrant’s children in the Napa valley.

Or you could have a strawberry muffin and a hot latte and ponder what it must have been like for poor Julie getting stabbed in the back by Brutus, and several others.

We have put the grilled cheese on the menu. I know some of you have already been enjoying it on the QT but for those who haven’t its made with Swiss gruyere, Danish havarti and Canadian cheddar. It is a veritable triumvirate of epicurean proportions.

We put the BLT on the menu too.

Hey! We have menus printed! That is news.

The weekend was very busy and we sold out of Anthony’s lamb and pork sausages but we will have more in time for next weekend.

EAT MORE BACON

Friday, March 12, 2004

Good Morning? Not with the snow falling it isn't. Can't believe I was actually thinking of gardening anytime soon. But on the bright side, Heidi baked up a batch of terrific spiced pear muffins. She has already started eating them so you will have to be quick.

Omelette - zucchini with guyere
Soup - curried carrot
Sandwich Special - chicken club with a side of nappa slaw.

That is all the news for now. Martina

p.s. lisa, you are the best. thanks again from little furious and the girls!

Thursday, March 11, 2004

i am not feeling one hundred percent today. so i'll keep this short.

the chicken club sandwich is on special. this time it comes on a ciapatta bun with our lovely nappa slaw.

the omelette is tomato and fresh basil

the soup is carrot

the muffins are lemon and cranberry

our coffee is still the best this side of Parliament St.

I need more drugs(ie dayquill) and I'm sure I'll feel much better.

Tuesday, March 09, 2004

the soup today is a hearty bean and vegetable

the omelet is havarti and chives

the muffins are chocolate chip

it being tuesday means we have pancakes, with blueberries in them!

I made a mistake about the bombons being enjoyed by the band Postal Service. They are popular in the bike racing team of US Postal Service. I'm sure the band would like them if they did have them.

Monday, March 08, 2004

Martina made a chunky tasty garden vegetable soup for today. The muffins are blueberry and the omelet is fresh baby spinach and Swiss gruyere cheese. We also feel, well I do, like making BLTs so come in and get some bacon!

The weekend was pretty busy, lots of people out and about despite the weather.

Robyn finally came down from Waterloo to have breakfast here and see what the big deal was. Her and Doug told me that the band Postal Service(a favorite on the stereo here) drinks a Spanish coffee called a bom-bon. A shot of espresso with a spoonful of sweetened condensed milk. I had about seven yesterday. I had to take a pill to sleep last night. I recommend trying one.

I need to stop grinding my teeth.

Don’t forget tomorrow is Tuesday. Pancakes! Pancakes! Pancakes!

Friday, March 05, 2004

Hey!

Sorry it's taken me this long to get the specials out. It's been a busy morning and we're tired from the Metric show last night.

The special is still on, grilled salami and mozzarella and the omelet is cheddar and sauted mushrooms(oyster and portabello)

we are out of muffins, sorry

we still have some cake

Craig is visiting from Vancouver and we haven't seen him in at least a year! So we have some catching up to do.

Heidi set fire to her pants in the oven this morning trying to dry them out. No more late concerts for us I think.

Gramps/The General

Yep, I'll be back. Didn't really try with my project. Lost my bottle at the
last mo. However, I do have a silly beard to show for my lengthy excursion.

T

Ps. I have the Curly Wurlies and will work on the Viz tomorrow.

Tommo

Glad to hear that you’re otherwise okay. Whats with the beard? Doug says you must be tired of the Tin-tin look and are now going for the Captain Haddock scruff. It’s hard for me to not picture you as looking more like the love child of the two.

James

Thursday, March 04, 2004

its a grey Thursday morning. I'm cheering myself up with grilled mozzarella and salami sarnies and buckets of coffee.

the omelet is a repeat, havarti and arugula, I love this one

good old mango muffins

hearty potato and leek soup

French Toast is nice on a day like this. So are espressos, lot's of espressos.

Hey Tommo! I hear you've escaped from the circus and made you're way to England and that your reason for staying there has not materialised. Will you be coming back to Canada then? If you run into Sean say hi from me and Heidi.

Speaking of England, last night I was watching a documentary on the royal househoulds jewelry. Everytime they mentioned the "Queen's jewels" I had to giggle, like a little kid.

Now, more coffee.

Tuesday, March 02, 2004

pancakes! pancakes! pancakes!

banana, blueberry or plain

arugula and havarti make up todays omelete

the muffins are strawberry

the soup is a lovely red cabbage, and that soup I made for yesterday was described by a customer as "bizarre tasting". This one is "pleasant"

Monday, March 01, 2004

there is a film crew outside shooting Sue Thomas F.B. "Eye". If she's deaf why didn't they call it Sue Thomas F.B. "Ear"?

we have a pesto pasta salad today

the omelet is onion and cheddar

the muffins are chocolate chip but they're almost gone, if that is the case when anyone is feeling the need for sweets we have another of Heidi's mom's choco-chip banana cake.

the soup is ...well, I dont know how to describe the soup and I made it. It's a curried pepper and chickpea. I'm told its good but then I dont trust people's opinions on my soup. I know everything we make here is great but the soup thing is my achilles heel.

The weather was beautiful this weekend and meant it was a little slow here, not like last weekend. Martina has been off sick and Anthony has been filling in. Anthony made these incredible pork sausages and we sold more of those than we did bacon!

None of this is really news is it?

Hey Cindy, how's the weather in LA?
